A major global mining company, through their supply chain team, identified that additive manufacturing (AM) will disrupt large, remote supply chains through printing on demand spare parts.
The company knew they wanted to prepare for this disruption but were unsure of how to identify what is possible in the short, medium and long term.
The Solution
• Complete a data integrity assessment on the spares inventory database ensuring all relevant information is available
• Complete an AM inventory identification assessment to understand what can be printed with current and future technology across the roadmap
The Results
The operator will now understand:
•When they can begin with a virtual inventory for spare parts.
•How much of their spare parts inventory can potentially be made virtual and over what timeframe this can be achieved
•The cost benefit analysis at a scoping study level of accuracy.
